Poland has asked for bids for three new anti-tank missiles. The first (range 2.5km) is for use by dismounted infantry. The second (range 4km) is for use from vehicles and helicopters. The third (range 10km) is for use from helicopters only. The Poles have invited the usual suspects to bid (Euromissile Milan and Trigat; Israel's Gill, Spike, and Dandy; South Africa's Ingwe and Mokopa; Sweden's Bill-2; and the American Javelin, Hellfire, and TOW-2). A selection will be made in November; the winner may be selected more by the cost and offsets (promises to buy Polish goods with the money. rather than just taking the money) than the effectiveness of the missiles.--Stephen V Cole
