Procurement: Brits Buy More Armor For Troops in Afghanistan

July 30, 2006: Britain has ordered more armored vehicles for its troops in Afghanistan. These include 100 Pinzgauers (the Protector model, a 6x6 vehicle that will protect its passengers from rifle bullets and roadside bombs, and carries 12 troops or 3,300 pounds of cargo), 70 FV430s (15 ton tracked infantry vehicles) and 100 Cougars (a 12 ton truck that is hardened to survive bombs and mines). There are already 66 Pinzgauers and 54 FV430s on order. Deliveries of some of these vehicles are to begin this year.
