NASA is developing self-evolving hardware at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory. The first applications will be computers for use on satellites which are capable of reprogramming or even rewiring themselves to repair damage caused by radiation, extreme temperatures, or just plain aging. Later designs may include mechanical systems able to shift parts to replace damaged hardware.--Stephen V Cole
