The Sudan government and the SPLA are discussing a new idea that could mean a more resilient ceasefire is in the works. Sudan and the SPLA would field an "integrated force" to monitor the ceasefire and provide security during an extended "transition period" to peace. The SPLA made the proposal. Each side would provide 3,000 troops to the force. The Sudan government would move its army into northern end of the disputed zone. The SPLA would remain in its indigenous areas in the south. The Sudanese government currently has around 90,000 troops deployed in the south. Southern Kordofan, Southern
